Local people in your community are generating cheap, renewable power on their roofs and in their backyards. They often produce too much power to use themselves. With P2, a portion of your power will come from people in your neighbourhood exporting their excess solar energy. This makes cleaner, more affordable solar power a viable option, even if you do not currently have solar panels or can’t afford the expense of installing solar apparatus.

To switch to P2, you only need a smart meter, as we rely on these to be able to read your consumption data regularly and remotely. This will further allow us to match the SolarShare and provide feedback with PowerPal. Smart meters are being rolled out across the country and you'll probably get one soon, although only your current power provider is able to provide it.

Unfortunately, we currently only support direct debit for bill payments. If you are interested in joining P2 once other payment methods are in place, feel free to let us know through info@p2power.co.nz.

It couldn’t be simpler! There are no setup costs, fixed term contracts or minimum terms. Once you have completed the sign-up form on our join page, we will organise the switch for you. You won’t need to do anything else at this point. While the switch can take up to 10 days to complete, depending on your current retailer, there will be no drop in connection.

Absolutely! Anyone can join and share the benefits of solar power, even if you’re renting or don’t have panels on your roof!

Your plan will depend on your annual consumption and what type of property you live in. From time to time we review and suggest plans according to your annual consumption measured. This is consistent across all power companies as it is set at the network company level.

A Low User will typically use less than 9000 kWh per year - which is normally a household of 1 to 3 people, with gas and/or water heating and efficient energy appliances. You may be on this plan only if this is your main place of residence - not being a holiday home, temporary housing, non-natural persons, ICP with outbuildings or used for any commercial activity.

A Standard User will use more than 9000 kWh per year - it might be a household of more than 2 people and use electricity for heating water and other heating appliances. This doesn’t necessarily need to be your principal residence.

If you believe you’d be better off on another plan, please advise us and we will initiate the change. We are able to move your plan only once per year due to the strict rules of the electricity market.
