About Us

P2's Mission

P2 (peer-to-peer) Power makes it easier for every New Zealander to enjoy the benefits of sharing the excess solar energy produced in their communities. We believe that cost should not be a barrier to being more eco-conscious with energy. Renewable energy sources are crucial for a sustainable future and we are proud to empower kiwis in the revolution towards 100% renewable energy in our nation.

The electricity industry is often seen as a boring industry and customers begrudgingly pay their power bill to big-power companies without understanding what they're paying for. With P2 Power and our technologies, we can make the process much more exciting and transparent and enable people to support each other by buying and selling energy.

How Will
Peer-To-Peer Power Save You Money?

In a nutshell, peer-to-peer power allows anyone to share the benefits of solar power, even if you’re renting or don’t have panels on your roof.

Whenever you use power, we find local generators nearby who are exporting renewable electricity to the grid at the same time. We use smart meters to automatically find local sources of power for you every half hour. When there’s not enough local power to meet your needs the rest is supplied from traditional power stations.

As we prioritise this cheaper, locally produced energy, you avoid paying a higher grid price for a percentage of your power. If you have solar panels already, you are able to earn more for your exported power by selling it to your local community.

Genuinely Greener

With climate change becoming more of a pressing issue, the New Zealand electricity market needs to change in order to confront this. Here at P2, we want to make a real positive impact to your bill, but also the planet.

Traditional electricity comes from a range of sources, including fossil fuel plants burning coal and gas. P2 prioritises local, renewable sources, so you can buy green power first and grid power when you need it. Less carbon-based fuel powering your home means a cleaner future for ourselves and our polar bear friends.
